This month, we’re celebrating athletes who embody what it truly means to compete—not just with skill but with heart, discipline, and an unshakable mindset. April’s Whole Athlete Training theme is Ideal Competitive Mindset. The athletes we’re spotlighting don’t just show up to win; they show up to work. They lead by example, push their limits, and bring their teams along with them.

Let’s meet the athletes of the month:

Addie Freed - Elite (OH)

Submitted by Jackie Cline, Elite Volleyball Training Center Director

She was nominated by 3 of her teammates. They told us that she always comes into practice ready to work hard in every drill. She never takes a play off, and keeps her teammates accountable to do the same.

BrynaLynn Clark - KC Power

Nominated by Logan Williams, KC Power 12’s Coach

Bryna fights for every point, never letting a ball drop! She is a leader on her team who talks on every ball, directing traffic. She jumps high, moves quick, and lays out to better the ball every time she touches it. She has grown so much in terms of resilience this year, keeping a positive attitude even after a bad play. She has a consistent hitting percentage of over .300 and is the block leader for our team, playing in the middle. She serve receives at an average of 2.4, receiving 5/6 rotations. She is coachable, fiery, and determined to do everything in her power to win.

Ellie Cho - A5 Gwinnett

Nominated by Morgan Furness, A5 Gwinnett 14’s Coach

Ellie is the definition of grit and hustle. She is consistently showing up with a great attitude and desire to be better in every aspect of her game. She is always looking for new ways to improve her game every practice and is extremely coachable. Her eye work on defense at only 14 years old is extremely impressive. She is a stand-out leader in her talk with the team and proceeds to back it up with her play as well.

Valentina Shawn - Boomers

Nominated by Kaitlin Pitts, Boomers Coach

Valentina is the true definition of a highly motivated and goal-oriented athlete. As a 15U player on one of our elite teams, she brings passion, perseverance, and discipline to the court every day. Her competitive edge sets her apart—she thrives under pressure, embraces challenges, and consistently pushes herself to be better. Whether she’s diving for a game-saving dig or leading her team with relentless energy, Valentina’s determination and work ethic make her a standout. She is a shining example of what hard work and resilience can achieve!

Addison Owens - Gainesville Juniors

Nominated by Andre Medina, Gainesville Juniors Coach and Recruiting Coordinator

Effort/Attitude are at a high level at all times in every practice and whether a match is going well or not. She leads by example on and off the court. She will always make the choices in life and on the court that can help her achieve her personal goals and team goals even if that choice means choosing to do something difficult.
