After do-everything performances last week, LOVB Salt Lake opposite Skylar Fields and LOVB Houston outside hitter Madi Rishel have earned League One Volleyball’s Player of the Week honors.
Offensive Player of the Week: Skylar Fields, LOVB Salt Lake
Skylar is LOVB’s first -back-to-back winner after having a monster performance Saturday against LOVB Austin. The Missouri City, Texas, native landed 25 kills and 31 total points – both league-best marks on the year – with six kills in the fifth set alone as Salt Lake rallied to beat LOVB Austin in five. Forty-five percent of Skylar’s swings against Austin resulted in a kill, and she added six blocks and five digs.
On the week in total, Skylar tallied 38 points – 32 kills – with six blocks and six digs. She’s third in the league so far with 81 total points and 71 total kills.
Defensive Player of the Week: Madi Rishel, LOVB Houston
An outside hitter, Madi was everywhere for LOVB Houston last Wednesday as she powered her squad to a three-set win at LOVB Madison. She led all players with 20 digs, averaging 6.67 per set and digging 87% of the balls hit in her area. The Phoenix, Arizona, native also added 10 points on 10 kills and a .259 attack percentage.
Madi is the first non-libero to win Defensive Player of the week and one of two non-liberos among LOVB’s top six in total digs and digs per set. She and teammate Anna Pogany lead the league with 4.60 digs per set and are tied for fourth at 69 total digs.
LOVB’s inaugural season continues Wednesday, February 5 when LOVB Austin hosts Madi, Anna and LOVB Houston. Starting Friday, February 7, Skylar and her Salt Lake squad will host Atlanta, Madison and Omaha during Weekend with LOVB.
