The February Athletes of the Month embody the Whole Athlete Training monthly theme Spread the LOVB and what it means to play with passion and purpose. Spreading the LOVB is about embracing who you are, having empathy for others, and giving back to the community.
Let’s take a moment to celebrate these athletes who make the game better for everyone!
Hadley Hasselbring - Union
Nominated by Terri Purichia, Union Coach
Hadley is an exceptional athlete, student, and even better teammate. Regardless of what goes on outside of the gym, Hadley always walks in with a smile on her face and greets every player and coach she passes along the way. If her team is the first in the gym and the last to leave, Hadley brings a positive attitude and 110% effort and energy. You can always count on her to make the big plays and support her teammates in all that they do. She will always be her team's biggest cheerleader and the one they call on when the game is on the line. Hadley always celebrates others more than ever recognizing her own accomplishments and she always goes out of her way to include everyone!! Hadley embodies what it means to Spread the LOVB. Anyone who comes in contact with her will have a better day, on and off the court, because of it!
Kyra Pickles - Eastside
Nominated by Adriane Hensley, Eastside Coach
Kyra's volleyball journey is such a great example on how to press on and never give up if you love something. That something is volleyball! I first coached Kyra when she was 14 and it was also my first year coaching club. I could tell just from the first season that she was going to go far. She worked hard, she loved the game, and loved her teammates. She was pulled up from regional that next year to national and played at the elite/national level for two years. Although her teams were good and they won a lot, Kyra realized that is not what made her love the sport. Of course, I was honored to have her back but to help and see her fall in love with the game again was all my coach's heart needed. Because she didn't give up and found her passion, she is committed to further her career in college with a full ride! I am inspired by her story to never give up and work hard and willingly at what you do.
Lila Grindey - VC United
Nominated by Ainsley Heise, VC United Director of Marketing and Programming
Lila consistently goes above and beyond, radiating positivity and lifting the spirits of everyone around her. Her goofiness and loud personality shines in our gym. Her genuine care for her teammates, combined with her unwavering optimism and kindness, makes her an outstanding role model. Whether on the court or off, Lila’s supportive nature and dedication to teamwork embody the very essence of a LOVB athlete.
Lydia Raymond - Houston Skyline BCS
Nominated by Madison Holle, Houston Skyline BCS Assistant Director & Coach
Lydia consistently spreads positive energy, uplifting everyone around her with her infectious enthusiasm and optimism. She has a natural ability to build up her teammates, offering encouragement and support whenever it's needed most. Thoughtful and kind in every interaction, Lydia is a committed teammate and student of the game. Her drive to be the best on and off the court is something that sets her apart!
Sophia Ruiz - Stars Carolinas
Nominated by Anna Goff Kelly, Stars Carolinas Assistant Director & Coach
Sophia is the biggest cheerleader on the sidelines for her own team and every team in our club. She will stay the entire PM wave (after playing AM) to stay and encourage other Stars teams. At the end of practices and games, she hugs each teammate and tells them something specific that they did great that game/practice. When she walks in the gym she greets every coach and player she sees and always brings excitement to the court.
Audriana Fitzmorris - LOVB Omaha
Audri is the definition of a pro. The way she shows up every day, in every way for her team and the people she cares about is amazing. She’s a selfless teammate who approaches everything she does with intelligence, love and great intentions. We love how funny, smart and caring she is, and the impact that it has on our team and our community. - Suzie Fritz, LOVB Omaha Head Coach
